Chapter 1418: Pilot

The Gallant Federations giant mobile suit normally required two pilots, linking their brains together to operate it.

Every pilot in the Gallant Federations military went through strict training and multiple rounds of physical enhancement just to qualify for the role.

The scientist in the white lab coat standing before Sein looked nothing like those super soldiers, though he had also been genetically enhanced to a small degree.

Sein could not help but wonder when the Gallant Federation had gained the ability to operate Rank Four mobile suits with only one pilot.

Then he rememberedSky Tyrant was not a mobile suit at all. It was an intelligent robot from Nexon.

Although both were metal constructs, Nexons intelligent robots were very different from the federations mobile suits. They were built on entirely different core technologies, even if they looked somewhat alike.

The scientist in the lab coat had already caught Seins interest.

With his precise control over flame, Sein avoided harming him. Then, with a touch of soul magic, he pried out every bit of information he wanted from the mans frail body and mind.

His name was Joseph, and he was a genius!

Michaelis Bell had been the genius who created the intelligent robots on Nexon, driven by his pursuit of supreme academic achievement.

Joseph, on the other hand, was far more pragmatic and did not care much about that stuff.

After receiving the Rank Four robot Sky Tyrant, Joseph quickly narrowed his research to two key areas: preventing it from rebelling and enhancing its combat performance.

He definitely lived up to his reputation as one of the federations top minds in robotics. His brilliance might not have matched Michaelis Bells, but Joseph had already devised a way to suppress the rebellious tendencies built into Nexon robots.

While Magus World could corrupt the core codes of these robots, changing their physical structure was another matter.

Joseph found a clever workaround. By installing a simple cockpit and rewriting parts of the control code, the Gallant Federation could reassert control through direct human operation.

At that point, piloting them was no different from operating federal mobile suits. More impressively, Josephs approach required only one pilot!

By contrast, the Gallant Federations giant mobile suits required two pilots due to limitations in both their technology and capabilities.

After all, the mobile suit technology had not been their own creationit was stolen from the Rosen Dynasty Civilization.

In the Rosen Dynasty, mobile suits could be operated by just a single pilot.

Their biological beings had far more advanced brains and self-cultivation systems that enhanced both psychic power and physical strength.

The Gallant Federation, lacking such cultivation methods, had to settle for genetically modified super soldiers connected through brainwave links.

Compared to true single-pilot control, brainwave linkage came with obvious drawbacks.

Even Illo, one of the Gallant Federations most respected scholars and the pioneer behind brainwave linkage, openly admitted as much.

Joseph believed his latest research could push the federations understanding of robotics and mobile suit engineering to new heights. He had even proven the concept himself by piloting one.

Given his position at this research base on Nocchi, Joseph could have easily boarded an escape pod before Sein and the other Magus World powerhouses arrived.

But he had been too absorbed in his experiments and missed the chance.

When Sein realized this, he could not help but study the frail scientist named Joseph from head to toe.

He had to admit, the Gallant Federation truly had no shortage of talent.

Whether in politics, finance, the military, or science, their rise to the ranks of top-tier civilizations was no accident.

In Seins eyes, Josephs worth rivaled that of a Rank Four or even Five being. What he valued was not the mans body parts but his intellect.

After all, wisdom and knowledge were priceless.

Failing to capture Michaelis Bell from the space station outside Nexon had been a regret, so Sein had no intention of letting the man before him slip away.

With Yuris mecha still unrepaired, Sein asked, Can you restore the cockpit without shutting down Sky Tyrants self-awareness?

Constructing a cockpit isnt particularly complex, but Ill need certain materials and an assistant, Joseph replied.

Joseph was not difficult to control. His soul was far easier to manipulate than the other mobile suit pilots Sein had captured.

Sein had already branded him with the slave mark deep within his soul.

You may use any materials here. There should still be some scientists who have not evacuated. Re-recruit them if needed. Ill guarantee their safety, Sein said, gesturing at the surroundings.

Soul manipulation did not mean wiping away Josephs free will. He still clung to a lingering loyalty to the Gallant Federation. A flicker of conflict crossed his face, but he followed Seins order and carried out the task.

With Sein holding his soul on a leash, Joseph was in no position to cause any real trouble. He probably could not even fight a Rank One or Rank Two creature on his own.

Once Joseph left, Sein turned his attention to Sky Tyrant.

The robot had returned to its usual honest, straightforward self. It knew Sein had come to its rescue and was aware that it had been forced to fight him against its will earlier.

Sky Tyrant scratched its metal head with a yellow claw, unsure how to start a conversation with Sein or put its gratitude into words.

Are you alright? Sein asked before it could open its mouth.

Sky Tyrant glanced at the hole in its chest, shook its head, and said, Im fine.

I want to try something later, Sein said. A friend of mine will attempt to pilot you, but dont worryshe wont override your self-awareness or your will.

Alright, Sky Tyrant replied without much concern.

Sein then released Yuri from her spatial living device.

As he began discussing the piloting experiment with her, he noticed the Huusian King still standing nearby.

You can go help the others. I wont need you here for now, Sein told him.
